Hong Kong FAQs

How do you get around?

From the airport -

The fastest and easiest way to get into the city is the Airport Express MTR train (24min to Hong Kong Station in Central). Buy a ticket at the Arrivals Hall and step straight onto the train directly in front.
Taxis/Uber are also available (25-40min drive)

In the city -

Hong Kongers takes pride in their transportation because it is very easy to get around the city via public transport (MTR, tram, bus). We recommend picking up an Octopus card which can be used everywhere from shops to convenience stores like Circle K and 7-Eleven.

Taxis are easy to get too, but please remember to carry cash (starting fare HKD $29 = USD$3.75). Taxis are very reliable and are usually cheaper than Uber.

Wedding day -

We recommend getting a taxi/Uber since HK Country Club is on the South side of the island and is a short 15min drive from Central.

By MTR, the South Island Line is only one stop from Admiralty taking you to Ocean Park, which is a 10min walk.

We will also organize shuttle pickups from the city once you give us your hotel information (please note in the RSVP if you have it set!).

What’s the weather like?

Hong Kong in March is humid, with temperatures ranging from 17-24°C (62-75°F). There’s a possibility of occasional showers or drizzle, especially as the region transitions to summer.

We recommend packing light layers — T-shirts, a long-sleeve or two, and a light sweater or jacket for cooler mornings/evenings.

Sightseeing recommendations?

Landmarks

  • Victoria Peak, “The Peak” (Island side): Iconic views of the city. Ride the Peak Tram where parts of the journey feel vertical, or hike up on the Lung Fu Shan Morning Trail, 2.8 miles on a paved path in the tropical rainforest.

  • Victoria Harbour: Experience the harbor by taking a ride on the Star Ferry (sunset is epic). Although there’s a nightly Symphony of Lights show on the water, the classic view is the stunning already.

  • Avenue of Stars (Kowloon side): Stroll along this promenade for Victoria Harbor views and tributes to film legends like Jackie Chan, Michelle Yeoh, and Chow Yun-Fat. There’s also a Bruce Lee statue.

  • Man Mo Temple (Central / Sheung Wan): Visit one of the oldest temples in Hong Kong dedicated to the Chinese folk god of literature, Man Tai (文帝) and the martial god Mo Tai (武帝). Afterwards, head to Man Mo Dim Sum or have a drink on the patio after at PMQ’s restaurant Louise.

  • Graham Street Mural (Central): Hong Kong street artist Alex Croft created this iconic mural. One of the most instagrammed places in HK. Other popular murals.

  • Lee Tung Avenue (Wan Chai): popular street in Hong Kong, usually lined with Chinese lanterns. Have a drink/bite at Cooshti.

  • Yick Cheong “Monster” Building (Quarry Bay, HK East): cluster of 5 buildings built densely together in the 1960s. It has been a popular photography spot in Hong Kong and was featured in music videos like Gallant and Eric Nam’s ‘Cave Me In’ and movies like ‘Transformers: Age of Extinction.’

A little farther…

  • Big Buddha (Tian Tan Buddha): Visit the large bronze Buddha statue on Lantau Island. Water buffalos wander freely among people here.

  • Lantau Island: Take the Ngong Ping 360 cable car for panoramic views and visit the Po Lin Monastery.

  • Tai O Fishing Village: Explore this historic village known for its stilt houses and dried seafood shops.

Markets and shopping

  • Temple Street Night Market: Shop for goods and enjoy local food at this bustling night market.

  • Ladies Market: Browse this busy street market for clothing, accessories, and more. Be warned this place is insanely busy as it’s a popular tourist and local spot.

  • Hong Kong has no shopping tax.

  • K11 Musea (Kowloon side) - mall with a futuristic looking interior.

  • Times Square (Causeway Bay) - most popular shopping hub in the city with lots of surrounding restaurants.

Experiences

  • Take the ferry: classic harbor views. Or go for the pirate ship.

  • Ride the trams: Take a historic tram for a unique way to see the city. Locals affectionately call these the ‘Ding Ding’ trams.

  • Hike Dragon's Back: Enjoy a scenic and accessible hiking trail with great views.

  • Explore museums: Visit the Hong Kong Museum of History or the M+ Museum for a dose of culture.

  • Visit Ocean Park: Spend a day at Ocean Park, a theme park with rides, animals, and a cable car over the mountains for a breathtaking view of Hong Kong. There is Hong Kong Disneyland but we do not recommend it because Ocean Park is the best and has pandas.

  • Enjoy the food: Try the local dim sum, and keep an eye out for our must-try list:

    • In Restaurants - 叉烧 Char Siu (honey bbq pork), 咕嚕肉 Gu Lou Yuhk (sweet and sour pork), 小笼包 Xiao Long Bao (soup dumpling), 扬州炒饭 Yeung Chow fried rice, 牛腩面 Ngau Lam Meen (beef brisket noodles), 北京烤鸭 Peking duck (give them time to prepare, worth it).

    • Street Snacks: 菠蘿包 Bo Lo Bao (pineapple bun), 雞蛋仔 Gai Daan Zai (street egg waffles), Hong Kong style milk tea, watermelon juice, curry fish balls (classic HK, not sure how foreigners will fare here 🤣).

Asian:

  • Ho Lee Fook (Cantonese/Western fusion with an interior inspired by old Hong Kong films. Michelin guide at a reasonable price. *Highly recommended)

  • Tim Ho Wan (Dim Sum, Anthony Bourdain)

  • Man Mo Dim Sum

  • Chôm Chôm (Vietnamese)

  • Samsen (Thai)

  • Lung Fu Pao (Japanese, trendy)

  • ALL Japanese restaurants - TokioLima, Tokio Joe, Zuma, Nobu, Kamitoro, Aubrey, Fukuro, Kikusan, Gonpachi, Sushi Kuu…
